March 1, 2002: Who wants Yesterday's Papers
Sponsored by the UM libraries and the College of Information Studies. Panels and lectures addressed preservation concerns facing today's libraries and archives. Two SAM members Danielle DuMerer and Kara McClurken were key organizers.

April 8, 2002 Annual Alumni Pizza Night and Elections
Smithsonian archivists/CLIS alumni spoke about their work experiences during a pizza party.

April 19-21, 2002 MARAC Conference, Towson, MD
Several SAM members helped with registration at the conference as well as attended sessions.

May 17, 2002 CIS Orientation
SAM promoted the chapter at the CIS orientation.

August 3, 2002 Annual Summer BBQ/Picnic
Members gathered for picnic at a local lake.

September 11, 2002 Welcome Meeting and Ice Cream Social
An introductory meeting for new members with an ice cream social following the meeting. .

September 28, 2002 Trip to the Renaissance Festival in Annapolis, MD
A trip to the Maryland Renaissance Festival was a chance for us to have fun... and enjoy some living history!

October 10, 2002 Archives Day Fair at Smithsonian Institution
The DC Chapter of MARAC hosted their annual archives fair to celebrate Archives Day. Several SAM members attended

October 13, 2002 SAM Potluck and Movie Night
SAM member gathered for food and a viewing of Parker Posey's Party Girl.

October 15, 2002 CLIS Brown Bag Lunch Open Forum with the Deans (in coordination with SAM, ASSIST, and SLA)
An informal Q&A session with Interim Dean Dearstyne and Assistant Dean Barlow

October 17, 2002 Brown-Bag Lunch: Literary Manuscripts, Followed by a tour of the KAP Room
Curator of Literary Manuscripts for UM Libraries, Beth Alvarez, discussed the challenges and rewards unique to working with literary manuscripts, including the microfilming projects she has overseen. Our lunch concluded with a tour of the Katherine Anne Porter room in the Hornbake Library.

October 18, 2002 Tour of the Riversdale Mansion
We went on a special tour of the Riversdale Mansion, which belonged to the Calvert family. The historian of the Mansion shed light on how archival resources aid in the interpretation of this historic home.

Thursday October 30, 2002 CLIS Archives Position Candidate: Dr. Eun Park
Students had a chance to meet and question Dr. Eun Park, the latest candidate for the archives position.

October 31, 2002 Halloween Happy Hour with ASIST and SLA
A social event with other student groups.

November 14, 2002 Richard Cox: Student Discussion and Guest Lecture
Guest Lecture "Flowers after the Funeral: The Role of Libraries, Archives, and Museums after 9-11," Students had the chance to meet with this leading archivist and writer. The lecture and reception, which was co-sponsored by CLIS, SAM, MARAC-DC, MARAC-Md, and the UM Libraries.
