Resolution Recognizing ACA's 20th Anniversary

WHEREAS the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) was founded at a business meeting of the Society of American Archivists in 1989 as an independent, non-profit organization for certifying professional archivists; and

WHEREAS ACA exists to ensure that standards of expertise in the practice of archival science are maintained and promoted by demonstrating a mastery of a defined body of knowledge and skills, compiled and regularly revised through the organization’s Role Delineation Statement; and

WHEREAS the designation "Certified Archivist" is recognized around the world as a standard for professional knowledge and competence; and

WHEREAS ACA has achieved a milestone in 2009 of 1,000 current members now certified; and

WHEREAS members of ACA are proven leaders throughout the archives profession; and

WHEREAS the ACA's Certification Maintenance program provides the archives profession with an exemplary model for encouraging, recognizing, and rewarding archival continuing education and professional development; and

WHEREAS ACA celebrates its 1,000th member and its 20th anniversary during Sustainable Archives: AUSTIN 2009, the Joint Annual Meeting of the Council of State Archivists and the Society of American Archivists in Austin, Texas, on August 13, 2009, with a gathering at the Hilton Austin that is open to all Academy members and friends;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Society of American Archivists hereby recognizes the Academy of Certified Archivists on the occasion of its 20th anniversary celebration.
