Ted Ling
Ted Ling recently retired as the Director, Strategic Projects, with the National Archives of Australia. He has been with the Archives for 31 years, and has worked in a number of National and State Programs throughout, including six years with Facilities, which is where he acquired his interest in archive buildings – how they are designed, built and managed. He has written a number of books and journal articles including:
Guidelines for Mobile Shelving for Archives, Libraries and Museums (1997)
Solid, Safe, Secure: Building Archives Repositories in Australia (1998)
Ted is currently coordinating a review of the National Archives current and future storage needs in south–east Australia, with the goal of seeking funding from the Federal Government to enable the construction of a large new facility to replace existing outmoded buildings.
Ted was a member of the ICA’s Committee on Buildings and Equipment in Temperate Climates from 2000 to 2004. He has undertaken several projects on behalf of the ICA, mostly involving low cost storage facilities – including the use of shipping containers as an alternative records repository, and shelving.
Ted received a BA (Hons) from the University of New South Wales (Sydney) majoring in History and Philosophy of Science in 1974 and an MA from Macquarie University (Sydney) majoring in Egyptian Archaeology in 1989.
