Conway
Paul Conway joined the executive management group of the Duke University Libraries in August 2001. Paul provides leadership for all of the libraries’ technology programs and services and represents library technology interests on the Duke campus and in regional, national, and international organizations. His particular focus is the development of the Digital Library @ Duke as a comprehensive program of services and tools for the provision and preservation of digital resources for the Duke University community.
Prior to coming to Duke, Paul headed the Preservation Department
at Yale University Library for nine years. At Yale, Paul managed several digital
research and development projects, including (1) Project Open Book; (2) a planning
project exploring the complexities of guaranteeing long-term access to e-journal
content produced by commercial publishers; and (3) an exploration of the potential
value of e-book content to library course reserve programs.
Paul Conway began his career in 1977 as an archivist on the
staff of the Gerald R. Ford Library. From 1988 to 1992 served successively
as the Preservation
Program Officer for the Society of American Archivists and as an Archives
Specialist at the National Archives and Records Administration. He has a Masters
Degree
in History and a Ph.D. in Information and Library Studies, both from the
University of Michigan.
Paul is a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists and has
been active in the Society for 20 years.
