Thomas Wilsted

Tom Wilsted, founder of Wilsted Consulting, has worked with dozens of architects, planners and building owners in planning and designing archives and archives-museum facilities. He previously served as director of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut, associate director of the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming, director of the Salvation Army Archives, and manuscripts librarian at the National Library of New Zealand.

He is the author of Managing Archives and Manuscripts Repositories (Society of American Archivists, 1992), which won the SAA's Waldo Leland Gifford Prize and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference Arline Custer Award; author of Planning New and Remodeled Archival Facilities (Society of American Archivists, 2007); and co-editor of Archival and Special Collections Facilities: Guidelines for Archivists, Librarians, Architects and Engineers (Society of American Archivists, 2009). The latter volume is an approved Society of American Archivists’ standard and received the SAA’s 2010 Preservation Publication Award. He is currently co-chair of the Society of American Archivists’ Archival Facilities Task Force that is revising this standard. He is a Society of American Archivists’ Fellow.
