Nora Murphy

Nora Murphy is the Archivist for Reference, Outreach and Instruction at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Institute Archives and Special Collections. Since arriving in 2000, Nora has overseen public service. She runs the reference services and reading room, prepares and participates in instruction sessions for MIT classes, and coordinates all aspects of outreach at the Institute Archives and Special Collections.

Prior to arriving at MIT, Nora worked as an archivist at the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Archives and Records Preservation, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, the Massachusetts State Archives, and on a number of grant-funded archives projects.

She is an active member of New England Archivists and has served in various roles on the Board, including president, and has been a presenter at sessions over the years. In addition, she has taught the Reference Workshop for NEA. Nora has also been active at SAA by presenting and participating in the activities of sections and roundtables.

Nora has a BA in history from Boston College and an MA in history and archival methods from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
