In Need of Mentors!

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Be an opener of doors for such as come after thee.” This is the mantra of the SAA Mentoring Program, which strives to place experienced archivists together with those who are newer to the profession, who want to build their knowledge base, or who need help finding a job. The program has been active in creating lasting and effective professional relationships for the last 20 years.

Mentoring is a two-sided process, however, requiring both mentors and protégés. At the moment, the program has a number of eager protégés, but we’re lacking enough mentors to supply them all with the guidance, advice, and instruction they need. Will you consider serving as a mentor, ideally for at least one year? How you and your protégé frame and structure your relationship is up to you! For more information about the program, click here.
