Universal Declaration on Archives Adopted by ICA

The International Council on Archives approved the text of the Universal Declaration on Archives (UDA) at its annual general meeting in Oslo in September 2010. Developed by ICA/SPA (Section of Professional Associations) on the model of the “Déclaration québécoise des Archives,” the UDA outlines the characteristics of archives and the management requirements to provide ongoing access to records. The declaration has been conceived as a basis for advocacy and promotion to support archives and the profession, and is currently available in 11 languages. It is written in concise language and gives archivists some useful advocacy talking points that also can be understood by non-archivists. Click here for the English version.
