SAA Election 2016

SAA members who are eligible to vote can cast their votes online between March 14, and April 3, 2016. Click here to cast a ballot. Use your SAA username and password to login to the eBallot system. If you do not know your login, click here to retrieve it (your information will be sent to the email address you have on file in SAA's member database). This is the seventh year that SAA is partnering with Votenet Solutions, a leading provider of secure online voting software for nonprofit associations.

Sixteen candidates are slated for SAA’s 2016 ballot (see box at right). The candidate elected vice president will serve a one-year term beginning in August 2016 and then will become SAA’s 73rd president in 2017–2018. There are three available seats on the Council. Those elected will serve three-year terms beginning in August and running through the 2018 Annual Meeting. In addition, there is a one-year term for Council that resulted from a resignation in 2015 by a sitting member of the Council. The candidate elected to this vacancy will serve immediately after the election and through the 2017 Annual Meeting. The three candidates elected to the 2017 Nominating Committee will serve one-year terms beginning immediately.

In the box at right, click on each candidate's name to read a brief bio along with his or her response to the questions (below) posed by this year's Nominating Committee.

Vice President/President-Elect:  The last several VPs/Presidents-elect have developed and promoted initiatives that tie into SAA’s strategic plan. For example, Kathleen Roe’s “Year of Living Dangerously” promoted SAA’s advocacy agenda. If you were the successful candidate, what initiative(s) would you promote during your tenure as president? How would you help SAA fulfill its mission of “promot[ing] the value and diversity of archives and archivists” and inspire the membership to do likewise?

Council: SAA is a member-governed organization that is composed of dozens of constituent groups with a variety of viewpoints. In recent years, SAA’s governance structure has strived to be more transparent and responsive in addressing member concerns. If elected, how would you help insure that the Council continues on this path and represents the broad interests of our diverse profession in a transparent manner?

Nominating Committee:  SAA’s strategic plan emphasizes the importance of diversifying the profession using a broad definition of diversity (race, culture, geography, institutional type, sexual orientation, age, constituent group, etc.). How is SAA currently cultivating a diverse group of future leaders for the organization, and how would you strive to represent this diversity within the slate of candidates?

These questions were developed by SAA’s 2016 Nominating Committee: Chair Krystal Appiah, Derek Mosley, Audra Eagle Yun, and Council members Tim Pyatt and Helen Wong Smith.

Any eligible member of SAA may also be placed on the ballot by submitting a petition signed by fifty individual members; petitions must be received at the SAA office in Chicago by February 10, 2016.

The online ballot will be administered by VoteNet Solutions.
