shelf list

n.A description of a repository's holdings that is organized in the same order that the materials are stored.

Notes

An example of a shelf list is a set of catalog cards for books that are ordered by call number. Shelf lists are generally used by staff for collection control rather than as an access tool. However, if the materials are classified according to a subject scheme, browsing the list provides access similar to browsing the shelves.
