locus sigilli

n. (l.s., abbr.)The place where a document is to have a seal affixed.

Notes

The abbreviation l.s. often appears on certificates, indicating where the notary public's seal should be placed. It does not stand for 'legal signature.' It may also be used in a fair copy to indicate the presence of a seal in the original.
