(also cell), n.A sheet of clear plastic on which figures are drawn and subsequently photographed in sequence with other cels to create an animated film.

Notes

A cel often contains only a portion of a scene and is photographed with other cels and a separate background to form a complete image. The images on a sequence of cels represent the portion of a scene that appears to move when viewed against the static background.
