cartridge

n. A container used to store and facilitate access to a roll of tape or film on a single core. A removable data disk.

Notes

Cartridges are principally used in readers, projectors, recorders, or computer drives to avoid users having to manually thread the media through the drive mechanism. Cartridges may be constructed so that the media is on a continuous loop. Cartridges have a single core, distinguishing them from cassettes, which have two cores.
