National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

The Donald C. & Elizabeth M. Dickinson Research Center at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum seeks an Archivist/Librarian to assist in the collections development & management, reference & research, and outreach programs of the Center.  This is a full-time [Mon.-Fri., 40 hour] position.  The Museum offers competitive benefits including health and life insurance and a generous 403B savings and retirement plan.

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science or equivalent degree in archives management. An advanced degree in a relevant field may be acceptable if combined with appropriate experience. Position requires 2-3 years full-time equivalent professional experience in an archival and/or library setting with demonstrable knowledge of archival principles, methods, and techniques. Strong computer skills (MS Access, Word, Excel) are a must. In addition, qualified candidates must have excellent written and oral skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively; demonstrated ability to complete projects within a limited time frame; and ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications: Practical experience in the creation of Web-based documents and in website design and in the use of Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop CS or CS2; Experience in collections development and/or involvement in a field program; Practical experience in MARC 21 cataloging, the use of LCSH and the application of DACS. General knowledge of encoded archival description (EAD) and XML, and/or website management, digital imaging, and electronics records management.
