POLITICAL PAPERS ARCHIVIST: The McConnell Center at the University of Louisville invites applications for the position of Archivist for the papers of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of the McConnell Center, the Archivist will be responsible for collecting, processing, and preserving the papers and affects of United States Senator Mitch McConnell and Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. The Archivist will also be responsible for being a liaison with constituencies using the educational facilities associated with the McConnell Center's archives which will include a reading room and state-of-the-art displays. The displays will highlight the lives and legacies of McConnell and Chao and educate about the process of government in America. Currently the Republican Leader of the U.S. Senate, McConnell has served in the Senate since 1984. The current United States Secretary of Labor, Elaine Chao was also head of the United Way and has served in numerous posts in business, think tanks, and the federal government. As parts of the collection are ready to be opened to the public, the Archivist will be responsible for facilitating and encouraging research and programming related to the collection.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in history, political science, or related field or ALA-accredited MLS; At least three years experience with arrangement and description in an archives or special collections or an equivalent combination of experience and education; Excellent organizational skills and a demonstration of initiative to complete projects; Excellent interpersonal skills; A working knowledge of current archival descriptive standards, intellectual property rights, and issues related to digital conversion of archival materials; Strong written and oral communications skills and willingness to work with constituencies outside the department and University. Congressional collections processing experience desired. Certified archivist desired.
BENEFITS: Standard benefit package includes life, health, dental and disability insurance and mandatory retirement plan. This is a twelve month administrative position and is not tenure-eligible. Anticipated salary range: $50-65,000 depending upon qualifications and experience.
