The Homestake-Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC) is seeking a qualified archivist to manage the 10,000 cubic foot Homestake Mining Company archival collection. The collection includes gold mining deeds, land claims, mineral surveys, historic photographs and much more, dating from 1876 to 2002. As the newest entity affiliated with the Adams Museum & House in Deadwood, SD, HARCC will open to the public in the summer of 2009 and will serve both as a research facility and cultural center. Roughly half of the collection has been processed.
The full-time archivist will be responsible for the management of the archive. The archivist will organize, catalog, maintain and preserve millions of documents. Qualified candidate will develop policies and procedures to manage the acquisition, disposition and safekeeping of records. The archivist will facilitate research for the public. Additionally, the archivist will supervise two assistant archivists.
Qualifications:
MA/MLS with concentration in archives administration or BA/BS degree in library science and minimum of three years experience working in an archive; demonstrated knowledge of MARC format, Library of Congress Classification, on-line searching, etc.; experience processing, cataloging and providing reference services; knowledge of preservation methods for archival materials.

Salary Range: $28,000 to $30,000
