Institutional Archivist

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is seeking an Institutional Archivist within the Learning Resource Center. Under indirect supervision, this position plans, organizes, maintains, and preserves print and/or non-print archival collection. Appraises and/or edits archival records and historically valuable materials of the institution. Experience in conducting and analyzing oral histories, and knowledge of oral history methodology, is desirable. Participates in research activities based on archival materials. Develops policy and/or procedure and directly manages acquisition, budget, disposition, and safekeeping of archival materials. Advise outside agencies, scholars, journalists, and others concerning the history of the University; establish policies related to access to confidential materials. Advise and assists researchers in the application of archival materials in research activities; interprets requirements and supplies and consults on archival information.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in history, master's preferred with 2 to 4 years experience in records administration, archival material collections, library, history-related or other related experience to obtain skills necessary to acquire, organize, store and disseminate historically valuable University records. An understanding of military history including medical military history is desirable. Considerable interpersonal, organizational, planning, project management and oral and written skills. Good organizational, communication and customer service skills. Prefer some supervisory ability and experience. Prefer experience with automated storage and retrieval systems, electronic records and database design/management.
