ARCHIVES 360°: 2011 Call for Pre-Conference Workshop Proposals

The Committee on Education of the Society of American Archivists invites submission of proposals for half-day, one-day, or two-day workshops and seminars throughout the year. Proposals that are accepted may be offered at various locations around the country, including as pre-conference workshops at SAA’s annual meeting.

Workshop and Seminar proposals submitted by October 1, 2010, will be reviewed specifically for the pre-conference programs that will be held in Chicago, IL, August 21 – 27, 2011.

Criteria for workshop proposals, material, and reviewer forms can be found in the “Program Development” section under the “Education and Events” menu on SAA’s website at www.archivists.org  Contact education@archivists.org  if you have questions.

Proposals should be in response to the Committee on Education’s current Request for Proposals (listed below) or build on (or enhance) SAA’s current continuing education workshop list at http://www.archivists.org/prof-education/course_catalog.asp  Your proposal must include all supporting materials required by the Committee on Education in order to be considered,

The committee is especially interested in proposals that address the topics below:

  • Disaster Planning for Electronic Records
  • Introduction to Metadata (all options)
  • Establishing and Managing a Digital Archives
  • Innovative Outreach and Advocacy in Special Collections (addressing new ways to reach out, advocate, and publicize your collections, services, etc.)
  • Copyright – Authors’ Rights, Residual Rights, Negotiation Rights, Open Access Movement, Archivists Working with Researchers and Access (½-day format acceptable)

Proposals for new education programs may be developed with specific groups in mind or for the broader SAA audience.   Programs are presented in one of the following formats:

  • Workshop:  Intensive, problem-focused learning experience that actively involves up to 40 participants in identifying and analyzing problems and in developing and evaluating solutions.
  • Seminar:  Educational session in which 45+ participants obtain information from a knowledgeable resource person in a given content area, allowing time for questions, interaction, and discussion.

 The Committee welcomes proposals from archivists as well as professionals in related fields. 

To submit a proposal, please use the Pre-conference Proposal Form on the SAA website.  Proposals must be e-mailed (preferred) or postmarked by October 1, 2010, and must include all supporting materials required by the Committee on Education in order to be considered.   If you aren’t sure what is required or have questions, please contact us at education@archivists.org
